Every day after school on our way to the field, I wondered when the day will come when I won’t have to worry about this sun beaming down on my neck and I can take my family away from this life that we live and have been accustom too. Here in West Africa where I was born and the struggle began being a slave working 7 days a week. The island, which was first inhabited by Indian tribes was later called Haiti, which means “the body of land.” Bonswa, M rele Kevin, in my native tongue, which is translated Good day my name is Kevin. Here we are again yet another day working and waiting to the sun go down so we can go home. Not a one complaint thru out the whole day, we work as if we love our work but the real truth was we loved one another. Within our family it is our tradition that our family is involved in all the decision-making. Our women are known for rearing the children without father being present. Our father is known as the breadwinner and the authority figure. While mother is managing the house and being the disciplinarian we all honor the both of them.
