Brittany Lingohr Feb 14, 2010 Article Assignment 2 Welfare in Singapore Singapore thoughts of welfare will never change. Singapore simply feels that if you are poor it is your own fault. The citizens of Singapore are unable to depend on the government for any type of financial help. They must save money, or depend on their family if they are in need of any type of help. This continues even after you are retired, in Singapore it is known for parent to sue their own children because they have failed to help support them the way it is needed. Unemployment in Singapore hit an all time high due to the recession in September, hitting 4.1%. In order to help with the unemployment issue casinos were established which will be opening February 14, 2010. Although Singapore does have a few ways to help the low income for instance low- income students, however they are hardly given out and the means are tested very hard. Any workers that are laid off do not receive any type of government help directly after being laid off. Instead many of the people that are laid off are pushed into programs to help them prepare to be
