Unformatted text preview: v C , v R and D ? 2. [8 pts] A plane wishes to drop a package of rescue rations for a party of explorers stranded on a mountain peak. a) If the plane is approaching the peak at a horizontal speed of 50.0 m/s and is located a vertical distance of 100.0 m above the height of the peak, at what horizontal distance from the peak should the plane release the package in order for it to land on the peak? (this calculation will take at least 2 steps, write down the equations of motion for x and y motion and try to work backwards) b) What is the vertical component of the package’s velocity just before it lands on the peak? c) What is the magnitude and direction of the final velocity of the package just before it lands on the peak?
