FINAL QUESTIONS: Comprehensive part: we are given two choices first theme: deals with gov’t in a more abstract way; gov’t structure and power, ideas of what it should be doing. Does not deal with political parties or factions (2 nd theme) o 2 nd : talk about IDEA of parties - considering time periods (#1): o go back to late colonial period : there was variation colony-by-colony –what is the system like, how did individual colonies function, what was being part of the BE? What was this STRUCTURE like? o Articles of Confederation : what does this gov’t look like?—very simple, congress; 1 state, 1 vote; power not with national gov’t, a lot of the power is being held by individual states. o Constitution : what is the structure of gov’t like under the constitution? More complicated and more powerful national gov’t; what are these powers granted by constitution? o Mid- and late-18-teens : argument between feds and repubs about how much power the national gov’t can have; constitution interpreted
