Development in Middle Adulthood Physical Development in Middle Adulthood The Climacteric Midlife transition in which fertility declines. 0. Women: reproductive capacity comes to an end 1. Men: reproductive capacity diminishes Women and the Climacteric Menopause- stop ovulating- gradual transition over a period of years- ovulations become more erratic and close together or far apart etc- when the period has stopped for a year they are defined as menopausal and after that post menopausal Midlife crisis or midlife metamorphosis? Our culture has traditionally viewed menopause as a disease rather than a natural process. There is currently a controversy about how menopause should be managed or even if it should be managed. So much of women’s identity is wrapped around child rearing. Most research says most don’t have midlife crisis most feel positive and it’s more like a midlife metamorphosis. We also think when women are menopausal they are nuts but most women don’t have extreme mood shifts there is biological stuff going on but it’s not so severe. Menopause
