noncumulative. The exams will consist of a combination of multiple choice and essay questions. group exercises: ihere will be several opportunities to earn points through group exercises. For these
exercises, we will divide into small groups to work on projects. problems, or debates involving crime and
justice. Because the group exercises are Used, in part, to reward regular attendance, there will be no
mechanism available to students to earn points on the group exercises if they are not present on the day in
which the exercise occurs. This means that you can lose several points on any particular day in which you do
not attend class. You may eam' approximately 50 points for this form ct participation in the course. Quizzes: Some people demonstrate their effort and participation in the course through excellent attendance.
To reward these people, I will administer several unannounced, short quizzes throughout the semester.
These quizzes will vary in format but typically will be small group quizzes that are used-stimulate critical
thinking about topics we discuss in the course. Students who attend class regularly may earn approximately
15 points for this form of class participation. consistent contribution to classroom discussion: Thoughtful and consistent participation in the classroom
will be rewarded. The assignment of grades in borderline situations and the assignment of + and - grades will
