Types of data access – standard vs. ad-hoc queries. Who needs access and where – e.g., engineers, managers, or shop floor workers? At business office, shop floor, or remote site? Speed (ease) of data access – i.e., how much delay can be tolerated? Data integrity requirements – low vs. high. Data storage requirements – e.g., weeks vs. decades. Data security requirements – how important? (10) 2. Fields = ITEM, LOCATION, QUANTITY Data = the item (name), location, or quantity of units for a particular item. Record Type = the labels (identifiers) ITEM, LOCATION, and QUANTITY (taken all together) Record = any row of data in the list (or, the name, location and quantity for a particular item). File
