Francklin GalaPrimary Source Analysis Discussion Board Chapter 5The primary source that I select was from chapter 5, The Analects (c. 480 BCE), Confucius (page 242). The author of this primary source is obviously Confucius as stated in the title of the source. Confucius is awell-known philosopher and teacher, but a new learning in reading through Chapter 5 was that Confucius also held minor government positions as well. The primary source is a dialogue between Confucius and his students regarding what the values of a gentleman should have. This source, along with other teaching from Confucius provided foundational principles for the government and society of China. Knowing the context that Confucius held government positions actually brings credibility to the source and claim that the principles provided shaped China’s society. Government officials have influence and authority, which elevated the intellectual and moral insights that Confucius provided. I
