Biology 002-Laboratory Manual 1     LABORATORY                                                                    PLANT STRUCTURE II                                       In this exercise you will have an opportunity to see some of the plant structures we have been  talking about in class. PROCEDURE With a lab partner and USING YOUR NOTES, answer the following questions  associated with the displays that are either set up around the room and referred to in the textbook.  Hand in your lab before you leave. GRADING 1-3 wrong  check 3.5 wrong  = check minus Specimen #1. Cross section of an herbaceous stem.   Look at the specimen and the line drawing beside the microscope. Name the  outermost layer , labeled ‘a’. Note that area ‘b’  is between the outermost layer and the vascular tissue .  Name the area labeled  ‘b’. Note that within layer ‘b’ are some cells that have  irregularly thickened cell walls .  Name these  cells AND give their function.
