Script o Original – a script directly created for a film o Adaptation – one that is previously sourced ex. Tv show, album, novel… Different kinds of adaptations loose or strict The Writer’s Script – 4 elements. It is a visual oral outline o Characters o Dialogue o Act o Setting Director’s Script (tech script/shooting script) – he takes the writer’s script and adapts it for the film ex. Camera placement Film text – third kind of script the final one Every Script goes through stages/drafts o Ex. Waterworld 5 iterations/drafts In a sense audience are writers in previews so the film can be edited to get rid of the parts that don't appeal to the audience The Writer in Hollywood o They began to rely heavily on writers when sound was introduced into films o The producers and directors thought that their power would be diminished To put the writer in their place they did all these drafts which still happens today A film about child abuse was completely changed around and turn into
