Jacob Zipperstein Dermatologist I have always had a great interest in the field of Dermatology. My father is chief Dermatologist at the Kaiser in San Francisco, and his career fascinates me. I realized that I wanted to pursue this medical path about four years ago when he let me shadow him for a day. Years ago, I used to think that there could be nothing interesting about the skin, and that it was boring, however, after listening to some of the diagnoses that my father has come up with in the past, this career really started to intrigue me. When you think about it, the skin is one of the most important elements of the body because it is your source of immediate protection from outside “enemies.” The skin is your first line of defense, and I want to understand the different elements to what can penetrate the skin. The necessities required to become a are is just as difficult as other medical careers. After going to a four-year med school, you need to enroll in a residency program, most of which take about five years to complete. At the ends of this training process, you
