HUI 239 10/29/09 October 1943, King signed an armistice with the North. Italy lost all of its colonies in Africa. Italy was assessed war damage and had to pay millions of dollars. Through the 90s, an important process begins to take place called ‘privatization’. Private companies start to form that provide services to the public that municipal companies originally provided (eg, sanitation, telephone, electricity, gas). In the 90s, Italy began to sell a lot of its assets. EFIM was completely gone; IRI and ENI were much smaller. What the government did in the 60s and 70s was good because they put Italy through a lot of changes that created changes and jobs. Small sized family firms were successful because they were smaller and could respond to market change and needs of the public much quicker. o There is a combination of craftsmanship and high technology that cannot be applied so freely in a large industry. In small sized firms, there is a lot of attention paid to details.
