CHEMISTRY 2510 SAFETY RULES FOR TEACHING LABORATORIES Immediately Contact Your Instructor if an Accident Occurs In Case of Fire When the Fire Alarm Sounds: Shut down all electrical heaters/hotplates/heating mantles, and leave the building by the nearest exit. Follow Fire Exit arrows posted on the walls in the outer corridors. Leave the lights on in the room, exit with your section, and stay 50 feet away from the building until the Fire Marshall tells you to return. Fire Extinguishers: These are to be used only by teaching assistants (TAs) or other qualified personnel, and then only in the case of a small fire. Students should not attempt to use fire extinguishers. The Safety Manager should be notified by telephone if a fire extinguisher has been used; extinguisher use should also be reported on an Incident Report Form. First Aid Immediately Contact Your Instructor if an Accident Occurs Serious Injury: Do not attempt to move a seriously injured person. Call 911 immediately (or 255-1111), and stay with the injured person until help arrives.
