Garrett Yamasaki Professor Josh wood Eng. 100A Tues/Thurs 8:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. 07/24/2008 “Going Native” by Francine Prose “What If” Questions “Going Native,” written by Francine Prose, incorporates many aspects of what it would be like if your life had embraced a different culture. Numerous questions arise from this essay writing – What would it be like if you were born another race? What would it be like if your child was a mixed race? – that make the reader ponder what something could be like. Prose provides multiple allusions of people attempting to go native; some of which fail and come back to normal life and some that are completely lured into a different type of culture. As a reader, I can somewhat relate to what it would be like to go native for a week since I recently came back from a trip from Mexico. Overall, “Going Native” was quite an intriguing read – imagining what it is like for the many different cultures living in America. As I was reading the beginning “Going Native” I sensed that it was going to
