Unformatted text preview: Jefri Vanegas Jason Ludington January 12, 2010 Method Participants Design Participants were randomly assigned to their condition in this one-way within subjects experiment. The independent variable in this design is the type of words. The levels of the independent variable are incongruent words and neutral words. The dependent variable is the response time to say the words on the poster board. Materials and Apparatus Two rooms labeled “I” and “N” contained the same stopwatch and instructions for the experimenter. “I” stands for incongruent, and “N” for neutral. Each participant was given a sheet of paper to record the response time in the incongruent condition and the neutral condition. There was tape on the floor of both rooms to mark the distance between the participant and a poster attached on a door containing the word list. The word lists were different in each room. In room “I” the poster displayed a list of names of colors printed in a different ink color than the word.
