Scientists spend their entire lives in observatories, dedicate each day to track signalsfrom space and their research and efforts should be recognized. It is important to breakthe many misconceptions people have and inform them better. To do so, it is importantto understand the processes and techniques that scientists apply in their research- somany resources are being spent and it for sure has a higher purpose that everyone isnot aware of.In the search of extraterrestrial life, scientists apply many different strategies, and one ofthem is finding connections between life in severe conditions on Earth and life outside ofour solar system. Microorganisms that can develop capabilities to live in very severeconditions on Earth are likely to survive on other planets as well. This kind of livingbeings on Earth are called Extremophiles-representatives of three domains-Bacteria,Archaea and Eucarya. Extremophiles can survive in boiling water, ice, acid, the watercore of nuclear reactors, toxic waste, salt crystals and in other extreme habitats thatwere previously considered inhospitable for life. (Ricardo Cavicchioli, 2002). Knowledgeof these habitats leads scientists to an insight into the capabilities of microorganisms tosurvive in meteorites, outer space and other planets that might, but might not havesimilar life conditions as Earth. Also, this allows scientists to target certainextraterrestrial locations and environments that are targeted for exploration.
