Managing an Oracle Instance The SYSTEM user: creates administrative tables and views for some products Connect internal/oracle AS SYSDBA \orant\database\pwdorcl.ora password=admin entries=5 EXCLUSIVE- only one instance can use this password file, contains user names other than SYS and SYSTEM SHARED- More than one instance an use the password file, recognizes only the sys and internal users. Changing Internal Password- Delete the existing pass word file. (Oper. System or tool) Recreate the password file with a new password ORAPWD file=<fname> Password=<password> Entries=<entries> Change the internal password for the SID orc1. New password: ADMIN Maximum number of entries: 4 Operating System – DEL c:\ora81\database\orapworc1.ora Parameter File: Text file, default location that varies by operating system, only read during instance startup, can be modified by using a text editor, copy stored on computer running OEM, database startup configurations Parameters in Parameter File: Identify the name of database for which the instance is started
