The log_buffer setting should be a multiple of the database block size (db_block_size). Monitoring DBWR and LGWR If they fall behind, user processes can experience long wait times Query lists the total number of waits and wait times for file I/O events: Select event, total_waits, time_waited FROM v$system_event Where event like ‘%file%; Order by total_waits desc; Tuning rollback segments Contains pre image of changed data You should create enough rollback segments to serve the transaction workload. Ideally, each user should have own separate rollback segment to eliminate ontention. V$WAITSTAT and V$ROLLSTAT. Select class, count, time FROM v$waitstat Where class in (‘free list’) Order by class Sizing of rollback segments: If not sized properly, extends and shrinks can occur a lot.
