Managing an Oracle Instance DBA user accounts: SYS and SYSTEM SYSTEM- auto. Created, granted system privileges, admin. Tables & views. Password file is usually located in the ORACLE/DBS directory. Process of deleting internal password: Delete the existing password file Recreate the password file wit a new password. Ex: ORAPWD file=<fname> Password=<password> Entries=<entries> Parameter file- contains a list of instance configuration parameters Parameters in parameter file: Identify name of database Control memory sizing and process settings of instance Size SGA components Defines some physical attributes of a database Specify database and instance default settings Rules for specifying parameter values: Most parameters are optional Can be specified in any order Keyword=value format Default values assigned by server for most parameters Parameters including literals enclosed in double quotation marks
