Managing Tablespaces and Datafiles Tablespace features: brought online while database is running All tablespaces except SYSTEM or one with active rollback segment, can be taken offline, this leaves the database running Used to store large amounts of static data on read-only devices Data file features: The size of data file can change, MAXDATAFILES NON-system tablespace: may contain data segments, index segments, rollback segments Contain rollback segment and application indexes SYSTEM- data dictionary information Contains system rollback segment CREATE TABLESPACE ACCOUNTS DATAFILE ‘eeee’ SIZE 10K; Tablespace storage parameters: efficiency of tablespace depends on amount of space used by a segment, important to know parameters. INITIAL NEXT MINEXTENTS- # of extents allocated when segment is created PCTINCREASE- percent by which the NEXT size increases MAXEXTENTS- CREATE TABLESPACE temp DATAFILE ‘-----‘ SIZE 50K DEFAULT STORAGE ( INITIAL 500K NEXT 500K MAXEXTENTS 500 PCTINCREASE 0)
