Or Grammar? • You will learn when you read chapter 1 of the Winkler text that she uses the word grammar grammar for what I’ll call syntax. I’ syntax. • We shall use the term grammar to refer to all of the different levels of language patterning – phonetics/phonology, morphology & syntax. • For us, grammar refers to a speaker’s largely speaker’ • We are not frightened by this.
