Agnieszka Wynar Mrs. Mancini AP Literature and Composition 1 December 2008 “The Love Song of J. Alfred Frufrock” - Eliot 1. The irony of the title is that the poem is spoken by an overeducated, neurotic and emotionally stilled man who does not have a romantic image. Love songs are usually written by artists that have vivid romantic imaginations. Prufrock is trying to speak of love to a woman, but he does not dare to do it. Thus this poem is not necessarily a love song, but something Prufrock would like to be able to talk about with a woman. 2. If Eliot used uniform stanzas it would take away from the transitions of the poem, therefore; its whole charm and meaning. The irregular rhyme underlines the changes of ideas and jumps between fiction, anticipated reality and immediate reality. 3. Prufrock seems to symbolize the frustration and inability of the modern individual. He is overeducated, eloquent, neurotic, and emotionally stilted. 4.
