Introduction and background of both companies: This assignment will review conduct a review between two online video sharing websites YouTube and Veoh. Both websites offer anyone with access to the internet the ability to upload, view and share video clips for free. YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in early 2005 (1) . YouTube’s success is hardly a secret; it was recently acquired by Google Inc. for $1.65 Billion in Google’s stock (3) . The website increased its popularity as it not only allowed amateur users to upload their videos, but it provided a tool for marketing purposes. It is widely used for marketing purposes by companies etc and it has also come under heavy fire because of lawsuits and complaints as a result of copyright issues. Veoh is a similar website which is based in Southern California and launched in 2007 by Dmitry Shapiro (11) . The website offers the same in terms of content but obviously it has not reached the popularity of YouTube. Both websites will be reviewed by examining its target market, its strengths and weaknesses according to its content, context, community, customization, communication, connection and commerce. Target Market: Initially YouTube has been directed at mostly teenagers and the younger population who has regular access to the internet however this is trend is quickly changing. Both companies haven’t specified their business models and the target market for both Veoh and YouTube were essentially the same as majority of the users are either teenagers or young adults. As the site became more popular, more and more business professionals and middle-age people have now logged onto YouTube. As a result of YouTube’s exponential growth, marketers, entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide have started using YouTube to promote not only their products, but themselves and their messages to viewers. So in essence, not only is YouTube they targeting the younger viewers who have access to the internet, but businesses and record labels who want to promote their product since YouTube has such a large following. Viewers and users of YouTube can include just about anyone from entrepreneurs, politicians, musicians, comedians or some student who is just procrastinating. Because of its reach and rising popularity, domestic and international politicians have used Youtube as a marketing tool for political campaigns including US Presidential candidates such as Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton (2) . Some have been successful and have landed television appearances in programs such as MAD TV and the Oprah Winfrey Show (4)(7) . Veoh on the other hand is a relatively new website that was launched in 2007. According to Alexa.com, YouTube is ranked #4 overall in terms of the amount of traffic that it receives (6) . Veoh on the hand it ranked #227 overall although they have been growing each month after their launch in
