Leslie Bruce English 473 Creative Assignment DUE DATE: December 4 th , 2009; Final draft of essay Description: For this assignment, you will write self-reflexively, meaning that you will analyze the motivations and choices driving your writing process . On December 4 th , you will submit a four- to five-page piece of creative writing for children. This text may take the form of a script for a “missing” or “deleted” scene, a narrative sequel or prequel, letters between characters, a fictional character’s diary entry, or a revision of an existing scene from the perspective of ONE character who was denied a voice in the original scene for ONE of the fictions we read (you may pre- authorize other forms with me, as well). To achieve depth in your character and plot development, control the breadth of your fiction: write only ONE scene, explore only ONE or TWO topics in a series of letters or diary entry, etc. In addition, you will submit a two-page “Afterword” for adult readers analyzing your overall motivations and the ways in which you think your text builds upon the foundation provided to you by the context, themes, generic conventions, and character development in the original text.
