Introduction: During this laboratory experiment, students were asked to use the computer and experiment with a freeware program called “Orbital Viewer”. This lab was important because the computer exercise helped students examined some of the properties of the atomic orbitals that describe the distributions of the electrons in the atoms. Learning the quantum mechanics of these electron behaviors can be very useful to understand in learn life because these concepts can also help describe the motions of objects like baseballs and basketballs. This computer exercise was also helpful for class because these electron distributions are of fundamental importance to understanding chemical bond. The goal of this lab was for students to investigate various properties of the atomic orbitals by using the interactive computer visualization program. Results:
