In this experiment, we looked and study the population of hermit crab and snails and the possible correlation of their distribution, and the occurrence of resource limitation. We collected shells and hermit crab from quadrants placed along a random location on a transect line. Are hermit crab population in rocky intertidal of Oahu resource limited? If so, why and what type of resource are limiting the population? What are the factor limiting the density of hermit crabs? NULL Hypothesis: There is no relationship between hermit crabs density and snail density. Alternative Hypothesis 1 (SHELL) Is the shell size available affecting the Hermit crab population There is a positive relationship between hermit crab density and snail density. Alternative Hypothesis 2 (HERMIT CRAB) --- Are hermit crabs occupying species of shell in proportion to what is available? There is a negative relationship between hermit crabs and snails.
