ECE 620 Dr. R. ROOSTA H.W # 7 SOLUTIONS P1) f = wxy + (w + z)(w' + y') = wxy + ww' + wy' + w'z + y'z The term ww' indicates that there is static 0 hazard. To find out about the static 1 hazard, let's make the karnaugh map: y,z w,x 00 01 11 10 00 1 1 01 1 1 11 1 1 1 1 10 1 1 As we can see, there are some adjacent 1's which are not in the same prime implicant, thus indicating static 1 hazard . P2) An essential hazard occurs in an asynchronous sequential circuit as a result of certain specified next state sequences. Sequences occur as a result of transitory states. Essential hazards are due to unequal signal delay paths in the circuit. To observe from a Karnaugh map if an essential hazard can occur, simply test the circuit by changing a single input variable one time (change the single input variable from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0), then change the same input variable 3 times consecutively (from 0 to 1 to 0 to 1 or from 1 to 0 to 1 to 0). If the circuti always ends up in the same state, then the essential hazard cannot occur otherwise it can occur.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
