ECE 561 – Digital Communications Systems MATLAB Assignment #1 Turn in all commands, models, results, and output graphs for the problems below. 1. For the waveform, x(t) given in problem 2 of homework #1, use MATLAB from the Command Window to do the following: a. Plot x(t) for 0 t < 3. Use a sampling time interval of 0.01 seconds (0:.01:3 - .01) b. Compute the power in the signal using the following approximation: P = 1 N x 2 ( n ) n = 1 N c. Use the fft command to find the Fourier transform of this sequence. Plot the amplitude spectrum versus frequency (in Hz). Use the fftshift command so that your results are centered at f = 0. Note: the values obtained for the FFT must be divided by the length of the sequence (N) so that they are properly scaled. d. Use your results in part c to plot the power spectral density as a function of frequency (in Hz). e. Sum the terms in the PSD and confirm that you get the signal power. f.
