Different things can affect human behavior. Aspects such as hormones and heredity can affect human behavior. In this paper, aspects including the endocrine system, hormones and the glands that secrete them, genetics, behavior genetics, and evolutionary psychology will uncover the reason why some people behave as they do. Endocrine System The endocrine system is a set of glands that secrete hormones. The endocrine system consists of pineal glands, pituitary glands, parathyroid glands, thyroid gland, pancreas, adrenal glands, ovaries or testes. Each one of the different glands releases hormones into the bloodstream. Pineal Gland The pineal gland is located in the middle of the brain. A hormone called melatonin secrets from the pineal gland. The pineal gland is responsible for the cycle of sleeping and waking up (“ne Scan, 2009). If the pineal gland should not function correctly, certain abnormal sleep issues resulting in disturbances called “jet lag.” Pituitary Gland The pituitary gland is the gland that is responsible for several functions of the body including blood pressure, thirst, body growth, and sexual behavior and interest. The pituitary gland plays such a large role in the endocrine system that it actually regulates the other glands that are a part of the system.
