Chapter 11- Human Resource Management - Working with people is just the beginning o Human Resource Management – The process of determining human resource needs and then recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating, compensating, and scheduling employees to achieve organizational goals o Developing the Ultimate Resource Many workers are now retrained for new more challenging jobs than before Some people call employees the “ultimate resource” o The Human resource challenge Changes in the labor force have had the most dramatic impact on the working of the free enterprise system - Determining Your Human Resource Needs o Five Steps involved in the human resource planning process Preparing a Human resource inventory of the organization’s employees Includes ages, names, education, capabilities, etc. Preparing a Job Analysis Job Analysis – A study of what is done by employees who hold various job titles; consists of 2 written statements o Job Description – The objectives of a job, the type of work to be done, the responsibilities and duties, the working conditions, and the relationship of the job to other functions o Job Specifications – Written summary of the minimum qualifications required of workers to do a particular job Assessing Future human resource demand Training programs Assessing the future supply The labor force is constantly shifting Establishing a strategic Plan Recruiting, selecting, training, and developing the labor force - Recruiting Employees from a Diverse Population o Recruitment – Set of activities used to obtain a sufficient number of the right
