Problem Description
: A series of 40 insect traps were set within a region of
sand dunes. The number of insects caught over a fixed time per trap for each
of two taxa were counted. The mean number of
Staphylinoidea
was 1.2,
whereas the mean number of
Hemiptera
was 2.1. Assume the insects of the
taxa are spread randomly across the dunes, and thus the Poisson distribution
is appropriate.
