Hong Le Chemistry 1A I. What do you think? 1. According to my data the enthalpy of the reaction is exothermic because the heat is getting loose during the reaction. The T f number is bigger than T i. Because it’s exothermic, then the sign for the molar enthalpy of reaction has to be negative. 2. Mg + HCl MCl2 + H2 + 1.98x 102 kJ/mole 3. There are some errors that must be happened during the record of the temperature, I had a really hard time to record the number as exactly as 30 second per time. For that reason, my mistake may be affecting the calculation on the enthalpy of the reaction. Moreover, the molar mass of Mg which has been recorded sloppily, possibly will lead to creating mistakes. 4. Calorimetric measurements are used on making hot packages to take care of the injuries, and applied on making refrigerators. II. What did you learn? 1. I learned that when doing the recording, I must be more careful on keeping the time as close exactly as 30 second per temperature reading time. 2.
