Introduction This lesson will prepare speeches for a special occassions such as commemorative events, award ceremonies, inaugarals, retirement ceremonies, weddings, etc. You will also learn about effective speaking in small groups. A small group setting is different because all participants of the group are potential speakers and listeners. Lesson Objectives Read the objectives listed at the beginning of Chapter 17 and 18. When you successfully complete these chapters and the related activities, you will be able to: Explain the purposes of the different types of special occasion speeches. Describe a small group and a problem-solving group. Know the responsibilties of the participants in a small group. Prepare a persuasive speech. These objectives reflect the important concepts of this lesson and should be used to guide your studies and your preparation for examinations. Learning Activities 1. Read Chapters 17 & 18 in the textbook. As you read, relate the material to the chapter
