Naming Alkenes (sec. 3.2) A ( C n H 2n , also named as olefin) C=C as the principle functional group (naming priority:alcohol>amine>alkene>alkane) A . Find the longest chain containing the double bond , H 3 CH 2 2 2 2 3 e.g. 1 B . Number the carbon atoms in the chain, beginning at the end nearer the double bond C . If the double bond is equi-distance from the two ends, begin at the end nearer the first branch point CH CH 3 H 3 C CH 3 CH 2 CH 3 e.g. 2 H D . Write the full name, numbering the substituents according to their position in the chain end listing them alphabetically E .
