Stat 215 Assignment 16 Module: CI_mu1_mu2 , Exercise: Crews Objective : (not available) Problem Description : The weights in pounds of the crew members participating in the Oxford and Cambridge boat race in 1992 were recorded. Determine if there is a difference in weights between the Oxford and Cambridge crew members using a two-sample confidence interval. The Histogram applet displays the weights of Oxford and Cambridge crew members in a histogram co-plot. The KSample applet displays the weights of Oxford and Cambridge crew members in a dotplot. Question Discuss the assumptions of normality and equality of variances for crew weights for each University using the normal quantile plots. Are any outliers present? Answer Normality appears to be reasonable for crew member weights for both Oxford and Cambridge universities. The deviations about the robust fit are reasonable for small sample sizes (n = 8 in both cases). Homogeneity of variances is a reasonable assumption. The slopes of the normal quantile plot lines are nearly the same for both
