Prof. Findley PLSC 328 Assignment 2 Part 4 The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation currently has a criteria of needing an effectiveness score of above 80 on the Gates scale to be able to receive grant money. Two different groups of NGOs apply for grants: U.S. based and non-U.S. based. The U.S. group has a mean effectiveness score of 90 with a standard deviation of 10 while the non-U.S. based groups have a mean score of 80 with a standard deviation of 10 as well. Mr. Gates would like to increase the proportion of non-U.S. based NGOs to be able to receive grants from the foundation. He has proposed lowering the foundation standard of effectiveness to 70 and believes this will increase the proportion of non-U.S. based NGOs receiving grants. By utilizing the normal distribution curve, z-scores and the data provided I have been able to analyze the current proportions and future proportions if the proposed change to the effectiveness requirement is made. Both of these groups are of the same size and are normally distributed.
