Receptor tyrosine kinases 2. Tyrosine kinase associated receptors 3. Receptor-like and receptor-associated tyrosine phosphatases 4. Receptor Serine/Threonine kniases 5. Receptor guanylyl cyclases 6. Histidine kinases associated receptors Most of these receptors possess enzymatic activities related to phosphorylation ( kinase or phosphatase ) Tyrosine Phosphatases that are associated with receptors SHP-1, SHP-2 help to terminate some cytokine response in blood cells by de-phosphorylating Jaks ( interferon ) Phosphatases function to ensure: - Tyrosine phosphorylation is short-lived -the level of tyrosine phosphorylation is low in resting cells A tyrosine kinase/receptor system that talks directly to transcription factors: Jacks/Stats Interferon receptor (Cytokine receptor) Receptor-like Tyrosine Phosphatases Some Receptor tyrosine phosphatases do more than simply reversing the effects of tyrosine kinases Ex. CD45 functions in lymphocyte activation Phosphatases function to ensure: - Tyrosine phosphorylation is short-lived -the level of tyrosine phosphorylation is low in resting cells Receptors that are Serine/ Threonine kinases The TGF- receptor family also includes: Activins (differentiation) bone morphogenic proteins (BMP) TGF- binds to a characteristic combination of Type II and Type 1 receptors Figure 15-69 Molecular Biology of the Cell ( Garland Science 2008) TGF- directly regulate the Smads transcription factors R-Smads (receptor activated Smad) Common partner Receptors that are guanylyl cyclases, e.g. ANP receptor 1. One piece receptor and effecter 2.
