Darwin’s Surprise 1) I disagree with the statement that bringing something dead back to life is fundamentally frightening because it provides one of our greatest scientific opportunities to look back into our genetic history for over ten thousand years. Science should definitely be allowed to wield this power because it can greatly benefit the human race to trace back our genetic history and look at how we as humans evolved. We can use the information to help us prepare for what might threaten our existence in the near future. Everyone should do their best to contribute to the study of our genetic history because its success can benefit everyone. 2) I think that it is amazing how the placentas in mammals are the result of a viral infection because I usually associate viruses to things that hurt us and give us diseases, but in this placentas virus’ case, it actually helped us evolve as a species.
