Amy Rice MW 10:50-12:05 SPC 1600- Johnston Due: 2/06/08 Title: “Backpacking, the Basics OUTLINE Exact Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will know more things about backpacking, specifically: the importance of location and packing the backpack correctly. INTRODUCTION Attention Getter: Narrative about my first time backpacking Audience Motivation: Backpacking is a great way to get exercise, take a break from our busy lives, and experience nature in a whole new way. Credibility: Both my parents have backpacked for many years, and I have been on 6 backpacking trips in various places throughout America. Purpose: Introduce the audience to backpacking; give them the general knowledge they need to plan their own backpacking trip. Preview: Focus on two exceedingly important things that can make or break a backpacking trip- the weight/contents of the backpack, and location of the trip. [TRANSITION: The most important thing to keep in mind is the weight and contents of your backpack.] I. The most important thing to keep in mind is the weight and contents of your backpack. A. Make sure you have the necessities covered: bring plenty of water and food.
