Name: _ SOLUTION_ _ _ _ CE 441 Reinforced Concrete Design – Assignment 6 Due Thursday October 15, 2009 A concrete floor system consists of parallel T-beams spaced 10 ft on centers that have 30 ft span between supports and an overhanging 10 ft extension past the right support as shown. The 4 inch thick slab is fabricated monolithically with T - beam webs having width b w = 12 in. and total depth, measured from the top of slab, of h =18 in. In addition to the self-weight of reinforced concrete, the floor system must carry a superimposed dead load of 75 pounds per square foot (psf) and service live load of 125 psf. f c '=3,500 psi, f y =60,000 psi, E s =29,000,000 psi, and reinforced concrete weighs 150 Ibs/ft 3 . 1) Considering a 1.0 ft wide section of slab as a beam that spans between the center T-beam and edge beams, design the reinforcement in the one-way slab to carry negative and positive moments. For thin concrete slabs reinforcement may be placed at the mid-thickness (i.e. d=t/2) to provide for both positive and also negative moment capacity. Use the approximate moments from ACI section 8.3,

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
