Jamie Cohen Fourth Essay Assignment The Daily Sun Cornell University is potentially redoing the college’s entire grading policy. Until this year, the system in which a student is graded upon consisted of the skills they exhibit for that particular class. However, the Ability is Arbitrary Coalition believes that students should be graded solely on effort using an effort detector, because the ability distribution from person-person is arbitrary. Although obtaining “good grades” is just a small part of attending a university, having an effort-based grading system is detrimental to society. Society rewards those people in which contribute the most to society. For instance, surgeons and firefighters are all looked highly upon for they help the people in the community, whether it’s an injured person, someone in a burning building, or simply just raising a child to be the best person he/she could be.
