Chem 452 – Homework # 1A • Due at noon, Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Chem 452 box in the 3 rd floor hallway of Bagley Hall outside the Chem Study Center. Please take a moment to be sure you get the right box. • No late homework will be accepted on this or future homework sets! • Homework 1A is worth a total of 10 points. When it is combined with homework 1B, this week’s set is worth the usual total of 20 points. • Turn in only this front page. Keep the following pages for your future reference. This homework set is intended as a quick and relatively painless way for you to brush up on your math skills, and for me to understand your math background so that I can teach you more effectively. Please answer the questions without consulting your calculator or other resources. Questions of these types will appear in lectures and exams, so treat this seriously. I believe that the following sheets contain all the basic math concepts you will need in this course. You will be graded on whether you complete this homework, not on how many questions you answer correctly, so please answer honestly. I will not judge you in any way based on your ability to answer these questions. This homework consists of two “self-tests”. Questions appear on one side of the sheet and the answers are on the back. Please try all of the problems in the first self-test before looking at the answers and recording your score below. If you get everything right on the first self-test, then there is no need to do the second one. Most students improve dramatically by the second time through. Name: Did you get questions 1A-17A correct on the first try? (circle an answer) YES / NO Mark an “X” through those questions you got wrong the first time you attempted them. 1A 2A 3A 4A 5A 6A 7A 8A 9A
