October 8, 2009 ECE 2100 Prelim # 1 Fall 2009 This exam is closed book but with 1 page (8.5 by 11 inches) full of notes of your choosing. Use calculator to get numerical answers. Show all work! Take 90 minutes. 1. (20 pts) Find the equivalent resistance which appears at terminals a and b. 2. (20 pts) Consider the following circuit with two mesh currents labeled, I 1 and I 2 . a) From the mesh which contains I 1 , write down the corresponding mesh equation. b) Determine the mesh current I 2 in terms of V Δ . c) Using the results from part b) , find a relationship which relates the two mesh currents, I 1 and I 2 . d) Now using the results from part c) and part a) , solve these simultaneous equations, and find relationships for each mesh current. e) With the mesh currents known, find a relationship for the output voltage ( V out ).
