Bhagat 1 Suny Bhagat Mr. D Period 7 Science is accredited with making life easier, yet also more difficult. It is pushing back the boundaries of human knowledge and understanding further than many people feel comfortable with. Science gave us life, but also is responsible for endangering it as well. Although science is the root of nuclear weapons, one of the vast man-made dangers introduced by scientific advances, it also is the foundation of cutting-edge technologies, from removing dust to having the ability to locate another habitual planet. These technologies are what give science the greater potential for good than evil. Over the past few decades, science has been the cause of world-wide worries. New scientific technologies enable the most harmless of objects turn into life threatening weapons. In the year 2008, China experienced a deadly earthquake, killing nearly 80,000 innocent lives. Research on the disaster was concluded, controversially, to “have been man-made” (Potter, Par. 2), censuring the poor construction of the reservoirs and the total weight of the water added stress near a fault line. Just by stating the earthquake could have been “man-made”, although unintentionally, generates fear in the minds of people. They may be convinced terrorists, through the use of science, can create earthquakes at will. This threat
