Barrington Pryce COMC 101: Principles of Speech October 2, 2009 As the seats of Cramton Auditorium fills with the eyes of many scholars, future doctors, lawyers and present leaders you hear the chatter of anticipation of the opening convocation speech. Convocation being the event to commemorate the beginning of the academic year usually gets students inspired to work harder and this year with the premier of the Bermuda being the keynote speaker has no change in the atmosphere. Convocation is embedded into Howard University’s history and it is unique and irreplaceable because it has led many of our undergraduate students to do great things in society. The keynote speaker being a student of not only Howard University’s medical school but the undergraduate program as well; knowing the kind of experience he received at convocation he knew not to let the audience down. Premier of Bermuda Dr. Ewart Frederick Brown being an excelling athlete of Bermuda led him to look at universities in The United States of America. He decided to attend Howard University even after receiving a scholarship from the University of Illinois. His time at Howard
