3 | P a g e Introduction So, you have decided to embark on the long journey that is a medical education? Congratulations! You have already accomplished one of the most difficult tasks that most college freshmen encounter: choosing a field of study. Know this however The path you have chosen will require you to complete one of the most taxing set of undergraduate curricula that exists. Your reward for this hard work will be another four years of intense study and countless hours of sacrifice while in medical school. This field of study is not for the lazy. It is not for the faint of heart, and it is not for the uncommitted. Fret not though! Being “pre - med” doesn’t necessarily mean that you will miss out on your undergraduate experience. Contrary to popular opinion, it is possible to be pre-med (indeed even to be a medical student) and still have a life. Rumors, myths, and lies regarding the pre-medical journey abound on the undergraduate scene; some carry some substance, others are meant to be taken lightly as a joke. The following packet is meant to be a guide through your next four years of study. Hopefully you can refer to it for clarification as you work your way through your undergraduate career. It is NOT the end all and be all of how to get to medical school. There are many ways to get to your chosen destination; this is just the way that I chose to go about it. Throughout this packet, I will allude to personal examples of how I chose to attack different obstacles which confronted me: know that the solutions that I took were not necessarily the only ones. I hereby offer you my reflections on all things regarding the undergraduate pre-medical curriculum at the University of South Florida. These are my opinions, and I offer them to you freely because just a few short years ago, I sat in your seat. I walked the path you are choosing to walk. And I hope that through my trials and tribulations, I can make your path to
