Unformatted text preview: Discussion: This experiment explored the concept of equilibrium through the making of various solutions with different concentrations and measuring their absorption. For the first part of the experiment the stock solution of Fe(NO 3 ) 3 was diluted and then made into solutions with SCN- and HNO 3- . The solutions were made with different volumes of the new diluted solution and the other two compounds and then their absorbance was measured using a spectrometer. The diluted solution was calculated using M 1 V 1 =M 2 V 2 which when solved for M 2 resulted in the value used to mix in the solutions. For the second part of the experiment, several more solutions were made with different concentration and volumes of the stock solutions and were all measured for their absorbance. The concentration for the reactants and the products of the reactions was determined by using M 1 V 1 =M 2 V 2 to calculate the initial concentration of the reactants.
