Personal Plan for Emerging Technology Assessment 2 1. What you believe to be the three most important causes of technology change in society, and why; 1.1 Genius When technologies change in society, there have been visible and invisible hands initiating the technology disrupted society. Genius is a visible hand that moves their ideas, inspirations, and even imagination, which are invisible hands, into reality. Their inventions sometimes beyond the ordinaries’ imaginations and have seemed to be absolute creations from nil. Their innovative ideas were supported by their comprehensive and highly structured knowledge resulting from their immensely concentrated time for the matters or inventions, which we called “technology” here. The genius is always a driving force of technology changing in society. Among geniuses in the past, there were some examples for driving forces that made a dynamic society change. Inventing of printing press by Gutenberg ignites to shift forward to the knowledge and information distributions to society. Further, the knowledge and information distributed by the printing inventions became foundations for other people’s research which generated other geniuses in society. Thomas Edison’s great inventions and works such as light bulb, kinetoscope, and motion picture camera impact on society by creating the new concept of technology that disrupts systems in society and our daily lives. Edison’s works brought great transformation in telecommunications and industrialized world that makes life is much more convenient, productive, and efficient. In telecommunications, Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone invention propelled communications among people in the world and James Watt’s design of steam engines increased fuel efficiency which is critical in our daily lives and industries. Geniuses have been always pioneers for transforming society and creating new paradigms reinforcing society changes and adoption of their inventions since their inventions have always brought tremendous benefits that ultimately propel human capabilities beyond limitations.
