22:01 Introduction to Ionizing Radiation Problem Set 1-2 Date Due: Tuesday 29 September 2009 The following websites are very useful for the work we will be doing over the next few weeks. It’s a good idea to bookmark them. A mole of protons has a mass of approximately 1 g and a mole of neutrons also has a mass of approximately 1 g. We’d therefore expect that the mass of a mole of Z + N be very close to an integer. If we look at the periodic table the atomic weight of a given element (the mass of one mole of its atoms) is rarely close to an integer. Discuss why this is the case using the element Stronium as an example. 2.
