1. What is the function of the Golgi apparatus? Describe the general structure of the Golgi apparatus and how this structure is related to the receiving and sending of materials? In the Golgi apparatus, products of the ER are modified, stored or shipped to other parts of the cell. The Golgi is a stack of membrane vesicles with a cis side that receives vesicles from the ER and a trans side from which vesicles are shipped towards the plasma membrane or certain organelles. 2. What is a secretory protein, and where is it functional/ What path does a secretory protein follow to reach its location of function? What does a hydrolytic enzyme do? A secretory protein is as its name implies secreted from the cell and is therefore functional outside the cell. A secretory protein is synthesized in the rough ER, is transported by vesicle to the Golgi apparatus where it is modified and then it travels by vesicle to the plasma membrane where it is secreted from the cell by excocytosis.
